Structure of NATO
The current secretary general of NATO is the former Norwegian prime minister Jens Stoltenberg, who took office on 1 October 2014. The term length of each secretary general is 4 years and can be renewed as his contract lasts until September 2022.
At this moment, NATO have 30 members as it consists of countries from North America and Europe
Member countries contribute to NATO in accordance with an agreed cost-sharing formula based on Gross National Income, the budget provides funds for personnel expenses, operating costs, and capital and programme expenditure of the International Staff at NATO Headquarters

Aims and Practice
NATO'S current international operations which the military alliance is facing include
Afghanistan, Kosovo, Iraq etc.
The organization is currently working a non-combat operation which supplies training, advice and support for Afghan organizations, this is known as Resolute Support. NATO’s authority figures have also reaffirmed their liability to a corporation between NATO and Afghanistan, by reinforcing political conferences and practical cooperation within the structure of the NATO-Afghanistan Enduring Partnership signed in 2010.
After Kosovo's announcement of independence during 2008, NATO approved it would proceed to maintain its attendance on the basis of UN Security Council Resolution 1244. Since then, it has improved the creation of a qualified and multi-ethnic Kosovo Security Force, which is an armed force accountable for security duties which are inappropriate for the police.
The training mission in Iraq was officially launched in 2018, at the request of Iraq’s government and in coordination with the Global Coalition to overthrow ISIS. The “NATO mission Iraq” is a non-combat guidance that includes a great quantity of NATO trainers. The instructors are assisting Iraqi services protect their region against terrorism and avoid the comeback of ISIS. This training concentrates on ranges such as civil-military planning, strengthened vehicles maintenance as well as navy medicine. It is also helping Iraqi trainers to construct more maintainable, clear and wide-ranging national security structures and organizations in order to support Iraqi military institutes.

After the attacks of 9/11 U.S president George W. Bush came to believe that it was the Al-Qaeda, led by Osama Bin Laden who were responsible as they did take responsibilty. The U.S government thought Osama Bin Laden was hiding in Afghanistan. A group called the Taliban was running Afghanistan and when asked to give Osama Bin Laden to the U.S government they refused. With the fear of their National Security being weak the U.S and NATO invaded Afghanistan. During this time they tried to liberalize the Country.
