Nammuldi Seepage Issues Improvement Projects in 2023
Upstream underdrainage pump upgrade project: expect to increase pump out flow rate by ~30%
reduce upstream phreatic level (water head), so reduce downstream seepage
Improve water level monitoring by adding more piezos to understand seepage correlations
add 1 piezo in underdrainage pipe
add 1 piezo in seepage well
add 1 or 2 under decant pond area and future decant pond area
Improve data collection by getting underdrainage and seepage pumping system on Wonderware to understand seepage correlations
Collect more real time data to estimate underdrainage recharge rate and correlate it to adjacent VWP 05 and 09, pond level, and downstream recharge rate
Collect more real time data to estimate seepage well recharge rate, and correlate it to upstream phreatic level and pond level
Improve water quality monitoring by conducting quarterly sampling and geochem testing to understand water correlations
Decant water
Seepage well water
Underdrainage water
Surface water
Ground water from bores
Ground modelling
3D geological modelling (Leapfrog) and gap assessment
GISTM geotech drilling to bridge gaps
Refine the geolgoical model and identify potential seepage pathway
3D ground water modelling
understand groundwater contour and future predication
New MB, IW, RW design
Drilling and installation new MBs
Collect more data and sample for assessment
Interception well and recovery well pumping, pipeline design setup
Physically collect seepage and drawdown GW water
After understanding the improvement performances from the planned work done above, make a decision on whether it is necessary and feasible to adopt other more expensive seepage mitigation measures too
Second cutoff trench with grout curtain
Ground water recovery trench
Cutoff barrier wall: insitu mixed soil bentonite slurry wall
HDPE barrier wall

Get enviro to review discharge options
Option 1: Easiest option: Approval for direct discharge
Confirm SoW with vendor again
Get Mike to approve
Raise noti and PR and started mobilize contractor
Option 2: build a bund no HDPE liner required
Confirm the required bund size. Engage EG or other contractor build the required bund first
confirm the final scope with DR vendor
Get Mike to approve
Raise noti and PR and started moblising contractor
Option 3: build a HDPE lined bund
Design the bund and estimated HDPE quantity
Procure HDPE
Procure who will be installing HDPE and build the bund (~separate PO), approval? how much? who? when?
This project will be not easy to move forward???
