student teacher identity
teacher identity plays a key role in decisions teachers make about teacher practices (Beijaard et al, 2004)
constructing the self as an educator, building confidence as a result of using reflective portfolios (Antonek et al, 1997)
according to Carrington & Elkins, above all, inclusion is a philosophy of acceptance where all pupils are valued & treated with respect (2005: 86)
what matters to parents is where their children are cared for, treated with dignity & whether teachers demonstrate a willingness to try different approaches (Barbera Cole, 2005)
rather than saying special children need specialist education, all they actually need is that children need to be taught by teachers who are enthusiastic, patient & sensitive (Thomas & Loxley, 2001, 2007)
it is deeply engrained within society the view that impairment & disability are negative aspects of a person's identity. people with disabilities want to reject their disabled identities & want to be 'normal' (Swain & French, 2003)
DfW, 2010 focusses on raising standards for children with special needs & closing the achievement gap. also language used for special children as 'disruptive' and 'challenging' the children are out of existence by being isolated (Corbett, 1992)
