power
the ability of one global actor to influence the actions of another global actor. Power can be exercised in a range of types
Hard power
the use of military and economic means to influence the behaviour or interests of other political states
Soft power
soft power involves shaping the preferences of thoheres through appeal and attraction
global governance
rules, norms and legal arrangements that seek to facilitate cooperations, and manage relations, between states.
Governance can be carried out by government organisations such as the UN and non-government organisations
Sovereignty
Legitimate or widely recognised ability to exercise effective control of a territory within recognised borders
multilateralism
Refers to a system of coordinating relations between three or more global actors, usually in pursuit of specific objectives.
State
the central actor in global politics. A state possesses a permanent populations, defined territory and recognised sovereignty.
globalisation
Refers to acceleration and intensification of exchanges of goods, services, labour and capital, which promote global interdependence.
