Anti-coagulants - Coggle Diagram
Anti-coagulants
Heprin
-
MOA: catalyzes the activation of antithrombin III, it increases the rate of formation of (antithrombin III + thrombin) complexes
-
Toxicity: increased bleeding, additive interactions with other anticoagulants, causes transient thrombocytopenia in many patients, prolonged use is associated with osteoporosis
Coumadin (Warfarin)
MOA: interferes with the synthesis of vitamin K-dependent coagulation factors (II, VII, IX, X)
Action of warfarin can be reversed with vitamin K-> synthesis of new clotting factors -> slow recovery

Thrombolytic agents
Streptokinase
Binds to circulating (endogenous) plasminogen to form an activator complex->converts further plasminogen to plasmin
