Assessments
Check for pressure ulcers
Check incision for odor, swelling, or discoloration of drainage
Check length of ambulation
Observe legs for edema/clots
Medications
Enoxaparin 60mg subcutaneously every 12 hours
Metoprolol 50 mg PO twice a day
Treatments
Vitals every 4 hours, including neuromuscular checks
Regular diet
Bathroom privileges and ambulation w/ assistance
Dry sterile dressing to incision site change every 8 hours
I&O
Encourage cough and deep breathing
Incentive spirometry every hour while awake
Knee high antiembolism stockings
Sequential compression devices (SCD’s) while in bed
Complete blood count every morning
Enoxaparin 60mg subcutaneously every 12 hours
Metoprolol 50 mg PO twice a day
Complications at risk
Immobility
Muscle weakness
Muscle atrophy
High fall risk
Morse score of 80
Diagnosis patient has the impacts this problem
Hypertension
Low hemoglobin/hematocrit may mean anemia
