Joints - Coggle Diagram

- - - - Articular cartilage: composed by hyaline cartilage, protects the joint by reducing friction and absorbing shock.
      - Articular capsule: Encases the synovial membrane and fluid of synovial joints allowing for
        proper function and containment of the fluid.
      - Synovial cavity: Contains synovial fluid and is a key part of a synovial joint as it allows for
        gliding with reduced friction.
      - Synovium: Maintains tissue surface, synovial fluid levels, nutrition of chondrocytes, and
        lubrication of cartilage.
      - Synovial fluid: Cushions the ends of bones and reduces friction while also allowing for
        movability.
      - Bursae: Prevents bones from running into each other and acts as another barrier against
        friction
      - Meniscus: Cushions between the femur and tibia to prevent damage on impact and friction.
      - Fatty pad: Soft tissue acts as a protecting cushion and reduces some friction as well between
        bones.
      - Tendon sheath: Permits the tendon to stretch and not adhere to the surrounding fascia.
      - Ligament: Connect bones and help maintain shape and stability while moving or
        sedentary.
      - Tendon: Attaches muscle to bone so that muscles can function properly and motions
        can occur.
