Treatment- Benzimidazoles, Pyrantel, Avermectins
Control- pasture management, hygiene, rotate anthelmintics, quarantine newbie's, regular fecals

Acarids (Roundworms)

CS- coughing (larval migrans through lung), unthrifty, diarrhea- adults irritate small intestine

Control- sanitation, remove manure

Equine Bots

Eggs hatch, irritate and horse licks

Pinworms
Develop in colon and rectum after ovum swallowed, then irritate anus which causes horse to rub tail bone-> “rat tail”

Modes of escape

Respiratory exudates- Strongylus, Parascaris, and Dictyocaulus can all cause coughing

Tape Worms (Cestodes)
Anoplocephala magna, A. perfolita, A. mamillana

Treatment- usually not necessary, but Pyrantel at 2X dosage and Valbazen/Albendazole effective
Lungworms
-
Cough, rapid breathing, and weight loss due to damaged lungs which makes them more vulnerable to secondary infections
