Contraction originating in ectopic focus of the ventricles. Premature QRS complex. Multifocal, unifocal, ventricular bigeminy, ventricular trigeminy, couples, triplets.
Usually benign in patient with normal heart. In heart disease, PVCs may reduce CO and precipitate angina and HF.
In inschemic heart disease or acute MI, represents ventricular irritability. May also occur in reperfusion arrhythmias after lysis of coronary artery clot.
