Neutralization
When acids and bases are mixed, the pH of the solution is neutralized. Meaning there is no excess of hydrogen or hydroxide ions
pH
pH is measured from 0-14. Form 7 to 14 it is determined as a base. 7 is neutral. And pH of less than 7 indicates acids.

Acids
An acid is a substance that gives a protons or accepts a pair of outer shell electrons to form a bond. There are many definitions for it such as the the Lewis definition and the Brønsted-Lowry definition. 1 - 5 on the pH scale are acids.

Bases
Bases are substances with alkaline properties. Their pH level is between 8 and 14. They can be corrosive.
Examples: Toothpaste, soap, laundry detergent, etc.
Characteristics: Taste bitter, feel slippery or soapy, and turn litmus paper blue.
