Renaissance
What it was
Renaissance was a period of European cultural, artistic, political and economic “rebirth” in the 14th century on Italy.
Characteristics
Trading: It was important because it provided the cities money. Italy because its geographic location (was in the center of Europe), could trade with any country.
Classicism: It was important because the artists started doing art with ancient ideas (classical ideas).
Intellectual and creativity: Many artistics things were done. This artistics thing include paintings and sculptures.
The black dead was important for the European economy because the ones who survived were left with greater wealth since there were not too many people after the black dead.
The rich families in Italy that were at the top of the society wanted to show that they were rich and for doing that they started investing in arts. This is called patronage. An example is the Medicis family.
When the artist from the renaissance arrived to Italy they found lots of arts because Italy was part of the roman empire, so there were lots of lost arts.

Italy was a collection of city-states (Independent cities) like Rome, Florence, Venice, etc...

Importance
Questioning spirit: Artists started to compare the thoughts of the ancient ages with their thoughts and started to find differences and began making critics. They started questioning and doubting about the classical world.
Even though the renaissance started as an artistic movement it had an impact on science, mathematics, exploration, literature, etc...
