circulatory system
the heart
right atrium where the heart recieves deoxygenated blood
left atrium receives oxygenated blood from the lungs through the pulmonary vein
atria pump blood into the ventricles
right ventricle pumps deoxygentad blood to the lungs
left ventricle pumps oxygenated blood to the body via the aorta
muscular walls contract to pump the blood
valves prevent the backflow of blood
septum separates the left and right side of the heart so oxygenated and deoxygenated remain separate
the effect of physical activity on pulse rate
each contraction of the ventricles create a surge of blood in the arteries
you could take your pulse after: sitting down for 5 minutes, then after 5 minutes go for a gentle walk, 5 minutes of slow running and then running for 5 minutes
then plot your results in a pie chart
your pulse rate will increase more with the more intense the exercise is
ways to monitor the activity of the heart
listening to it
measuring the pulse rate
by using an ECG
system of blood vessels(valves/heart) to make sure that the blood always flows in one direction
