Cell Structure and Organelles
Cell shape and movement:
Cell wall: surrounds the plasma membrane. Protects, supports, and gives the cell its shape. (found in plant cells)
Cytoskeleton: its a supportive framework, gives cell its shape and anchors the organelles
Plasma membrane: allows helpful material into the cell, and prevents unwanted materials from entering the cell.
Centrioles: they are made from microtubules and are important cell division.
Cilia :on the cell surface, aid in feeding and sweep substances on the surfaces.
Flagella :(move in a whip like motion)aid in locomotion and feeding.
Processing energy:
Mitochondria :membrane bound organelles that distribute energy to the rest of the cell.
Chloroplast: harness energy from the sun and convert it into chemical energy.
Manufacturing proteins:
Ribosomes :the site of protein synthesis.
Endoplasmic reticulum: Folded sacs and interconnected channels ; site of protein and lipid synthesis.
Processing, storing, and transporting materials:
Vacuole:membrane-bound organelle that temporarily stores materials like water.
Golgi Apparatus : Flattened stack of membranes that modifies ,sorts ,and packages proteins into vesicle sacs.
Lysosome: lysosomes provide transport in the cell by recycling the waste in the cell.
Controlling Cell Activities :
Nucleus :Directs the cell processes .
