INFERENTIAL STADISTICS use a random sample of data taken from a population to describe and make inferences about the population.
-
TYPES: Hypothesis testing: the inferences drawn may or may not be true, are based on probability, and may be uncertain.
-
DESCRIPTIVE STADISTICS are used to describe the basic features of the data in a study. They provide simple summaries about the sample and the measures.
TYPES: Measures of central tendency: mean, median, mode.
TYPES: Measures of dispersion: range, variance, standard deviation.
