The Isthmus of Panama has an area of 75,517 square kilometers, with more than 1000 miles of
coasts and 1000 islands in the Pacific and 800 miles of coastline and 600 islands in the Caribbean

It has a large number of rivers. It is estimated that there are about 500; about 350 on the Pacific slope, larger in surface than the Caribbean Sea, which only has about 150.
