are more sympathetic to the less well-off. Many poor people live in urban areas.

'Liberals'
those in the north-east and west of the USA who are more supportive of
government intervention in the economy, gay rights, abortion and tighter gun control.

Social Issues
They are more progressive in their views, favoring abortion and gay marriage, but are strongly for strict gun control laws that limit ownership.

They favor increasing the minimum wage so that Americans have more money with which to purchase goods.
They favor trade restrictions to protect American jobs.
Health Care
They prefer a lot of gouvernment regulation and aversight of the health care system, including the passage of the Affordable Care Act.

They favor more progressive approaches to education, such as implementing the Common Core System

They believe that crimes do no involve violence, such as selling drugs, should have lighter penalties and rehabilitation. They are against capital punishment.

Republicans are more likely to be conservative on social policy, ie anti-
abortion and anti-gay, pro-gun and pro-death penalty.

Tax Policy
They believe there should be tax cuts for everyone, both corporations and people of all income levels.
Social Issues
They tend to be conservative on social issues. They oppose gay marriage and promote marriage between a man and a women. They also oppose abortion and promote the right of gun ownership.
Labor and Free Trade
They tend to oppose increases to the minimum wage, citing the need for business to keep costs low so they can prosper and all Americans can have access to products and services.
They favor free trade in order to keep costs low for consumers and make businesses more profitable so they can grow
Health Care
They oppose the Affordable Care Act and believe too much government involvement in the industry will drive up costs and have a negative impact on the quality of care that consumers receive
