Osteoarthritis - Coggle Diagram

- - - - Osteotomies for knee and hip alignment
      - Decompression of the spinal roots
- - - - Altered ability to absorb shock from weight bearing activities
        
        Repetitive high impact trauma can lead to joint degeneration and failure
        
        Can be present in one joint or multiple. May develop elsewhere in response to primary manifestation.
    - - Erosion of protective cartilage, exposure of bone, subchondral hyperplasia
      - Broken pieces of cartilage and bone may enter joint cavity
      - Increased surface pressure causes sclerotic changes to underlying bone
        
        Replacement of new bone to repair damage at joint margins leads to development of osteophytes (spurs)
