Treatment
Lifestyle: various exercises/routines that promote mobility, reduce stiffness and swelling, and reduce pain
Pharm: anti-inflammatory (NSAIDs, corticosteroids) DMARD (better results if started early in disease process), anti-TNF
-
S&S
Joints: Pain, stiffness, swelling, deformities, immobility (primary S&S)
Systemic: Fatigue, low grade fever, weakness, weight loss, anorexia,
Complications

-
Hemo: Iron resistant anemia, thrombocytosis
-
-
Risks: primarily genetic, r/t immune dysfunction, more common in women, can occur at any age with increasing occurrence as a person ages
-
Cause: Immune system mediated chronic inflammation of the joints leads to swelling and eventual formation of a pannus in the synovial space. This tissue eventually fills the space and destroys bones and cartilage leading to dysfunctional, malformed, and painful joints and in some cases immobility (ankylosis). Usually follows a remission and exacerbation pattern. Systemic disease
