Economic Perspective: Major Canadian Industries
We believe that the emission target will help us reduce our emission substantially and create more opportunities to find different ways to produce gas or oil. “The World Bank’s High Level Commission on Carbon Prices, co-chaired by Nobel Laureate Joseph Stiglitz and Lord Nicholas Stern, concluded that ‘The transition to a low-carbon economy is potentially a powerful, attractive, and sustainable growth story, marked by higher resilience, more innovation, more livable cities, robust agriculture, and stronger ecosystems.’” (Canada "Government of Canada"). The carbon tax is a way to help us and our competitors find better ways to reduce emissions or solutions which would also help us save money. A benefit from the carbon tax is that we would reduce the effects of emissions on people and improve the air quality.
