Chosen Experiment Concentration

Method

The first step was to construct the galvanic cell making sure that the copper anode was in the copper sulphate solution and the zinc cathode in the zinc sulphate solution. The salt bridge was in both of the solutions and the voltmeter was hooked up to the anode and cathode using crocodile clips and wires.

The first concentration measured was 50mL of each solution with a concentration of 1mol/L. Once the resulting voltage had been recorded the copper solution’s concentration was then changed. This was done by taking 10mL of the solution out and adding 10mL of distilled water. This diluted the solution to 0.8mol/L. The voltage was then recorded again.

This dilution by a factor of eight was done multiple times till several voltages had been recorded at each different concentration.

The previous steps were then repeated with the change that zinc sulphate’s concentration was changed while copper sulphate’s concentration was constant.

After all the results had been recorded the values were graphed and the results analysed.
