Bone Tissue - Coggle Diagram

- - - - Epiphyseal line: a line running across the proximal and distal ends of the bone between the epiphysis and the diaphysis.
    - - Central Canal: Supplies blood to the spongy bone and houses blood vessels and nerves within the bone.
        
        Perforating Canal: Provide energy and nourishing elements for osteons.
        
        Canaliculi: small canal or tubular passage. Supplies nutrients through blood vessels, remove cellular wastes
      - Lamellae: Protection and strength to bones. Is a thin membrane, or plate of tissue in bone.
        
        Concentric: tubes of different size fitting inside each other to make an osteon. Surround central canal.
        
        Circumferential: Layers of bone matrix that go all the way around the bone.
        
        Interstitial: remnants of osteons that were partially resorbed during the process of bone remodeling
      - Periosteum: Contributes to bone elongation and modeling, and when the bone is injured, participates in its recovery.
        
        Endosteum: Acts as a coating for the inner compact bone and the trabeculae of the spongy tissue.
      - Osteoid: organic portion of the bone matric that forms before the maturation of bone tissue. Made up of collagen, fibrous protein, and mucopolysaccharide.
        
        Hydroxyapatite: Major component for bone and teeth.
      - Epiphysis: The end of a long bone
        
        Diaphysis: The shaft of a long bone
        
        Medullary cavity: The largely hollow interior portion of the diaphysis of a long bone
        
        Red marrow: Found in flat bones. Hip bone, breast, skull, and ribs. Generates lymphocytes.
        
        Yellow marrow: Contains mesenchymal stem cells. Produce cartilage, fat and bone. Aids storage of fats in cells.
        
        Hematopoiesis: production of all of the cellular components of blood and plasma.
    - - Intramembranous ossification: The process by which certain flat bones form from a mesenchymal model.
        
        Interstitial growth: known as longitudinal growth, The process by which bones grow in length.
        
        Appositional growth: The process by which bones grow in width.
