Read a book with intent of searching for answers or don't read the book at all.
Survey the book : what is a prototype ? What is this, what is that ? Why does it do that ? Etc.
If you read the book with no intent then you're just reading it and you'll forget everything. But the questions you ask yourself before reading it act as anchors so you'll remember it.
