Chapter 5 Page 42: Haunted in the Bush
Frenchie tells RiRi what happened with his brother with the Recruiters.
Frenchie finds a moose in the woods while hunting and is debating if he should kill it for breakfast or if he should let the moose live.
Frenchie feels ashamed that he didn't kill the moose because he pictured RiRi's sad face because of an empty stomach.
Chapter 1 Page 1: Frenchie's Coming to Story
Mitch sacrifices himself to the Recruiters so Frenchie can escape so he doesn't go to a school to get his bone marrow harvested.
Frenchie and his brother Mitch are running away from people called Recruiters, that harvests bone marrow from Indigenous Peoples because they are the only people who can dream.
Frenchie passes out and when he awakes, he meets Miigwans and the rest of the group.
Chapter 2 Page 18: The Fire
Miigwans explains that dreams are in your bone marrow. the exact quote is, "Dreams get caught in the webs woven in your bones. That's where they live, in that marrow there."
Frenchie gets to know the rest of the group, and RiRi is now 7 years old.
Miigwans doesn't let RiRi stay for story because she is still too young but Slopper was allowed to listen to story when he was RiRi's age.
Chapter 7 Page 56: The Four Winds
Frenchie hears a clatter of metal on metal and Miigwans says that they are room keys.
When Rose was with Frenchie in bed, everyone decided to come sleep in Frenchie's room, even though they had their own rooms.
The group finds an abandoned resort called The Four Winds resort, where they can stay for 2 days.
Chapter 6 Page 52: A Plague of Madness
Migwans tells the group that he read a book that tells a story about these people trapped inside their own town because the plague attacks them and they are put into quarantine.
Frenchie notices that Wab seems stressed because when they were getting back from hunting, Wab always rushed ahead of them.
Wab tells everyone that she saw men in the woods and that she recognizes one of the men.
Chapter 4 Page 32: Magic Words
The group meets Rose, the girl that Chi-Boy carried in from the woods.
Rose tells Frenchie a word from her language. "Nishin" which means "good" in Rose's language
when Rose was telling Frenchie what that word meant, Frenchie started getting a liking to Rose
Chapter 8 Page 80: Wab's Coming to Story
In order for Wab and her family to survive, Wab had to deliver certain items that people wanted
When Wab got to the person who wanted an envelope, there was nothing inside and so as Wab's punishment, Wab was raped and her cheek was sliced open.
Wab tells everyone how she joined the group
Chapter 3 Page 22: Story: Part One
Chi-Boy emerged out of the woods, carrying a girl, who was mistaken for a Recruiter. Frenchie was scared that she might be his cousin.
Frenchie tells RiRi parts of the story that Miigwans told everyone.
Frenchie heard light and cautious footsteps in the woods, and thought that it was a Recruiter.
Chapter 9 Page 87: Story: Part 2
Miigwans continues the story where he left off when Rose joined the group
"At first, people turned to Indigenous people the way the New Agers had, all reverence and curiosity, looking for ways we could help guide them", Miigwans tells the group.
Miigwans tells everyone that the recruiters asked for volunteers to give up their bone marrow, but the rooms for the volunteers were actually prisons.
Chapter 10 Page 91: Back Into the Woods
Slopper smells some smoke and Miigwans tells the group that it's a fire.
Miigwans tells Frenchie how Minerva, Wab, RiRi, Slopper, Tree and Zheegwon ended up joining the group. Frenchie almost threw up when Miigwans told Frenchie the story of how Tree and Zheegwon ended up joining the group.
RiRi finds a new pair of pink boots that fits her perfectly and wants to keep them.
