Talking in front of the public
Before your presentation
Find a topic
Do some research
Establish an outline / work structure / layout (plan), which is going to be your roadmap
Stretch yourself
Observing the reaction of the public:
talk out loud and catch the public's attention
see who is really interested in what I am saying and I look at them
be focused on what we are saying
we use simple, appropriate, audible, clear language
Dont's
Using some gestures to catch the attention
: tap so loud on the table - Shout -
Should not let the public feel that you don't like what you are doing
Avoid monotony: voice - gestures - ... etc
Do not proceed with rote learning because when the others ask questions, it will be difficult because you will not understand what you are presenting
Not laughing or giving an impression that you are not serious: The audience may lose their concentration
Don't abuse of gap fillers like errr ... euh ... Instead, use those like "How can I say it ... etc
Try not to write everything down, like every detail, because you may be tempted to read everything
The audience:
don't laugh at the person who made an error
Questions
what happens when we are intimidated?
You stand still
Attitudes:
Convince yourself first before convincing the others
We need to be more dynamic
Fill the space by moving sometimes - feel yourself at ease
Use gestures
Show a good first impression: greeting the public - be polite - having a correct posture -
Create connection with the public: Smile but not too much - Ask questions like "Do you see what I mean?" -
Hide your nervosity by making gestures: Take a deep breath (inspire for 3sec/ expire for 7sec) - Explain using the hands when you have no supporting material - Point out at what you are saying -
Eye contact
To show the public that you are not afraid to face them
To give an impression of self-confidence
To show that you care for the public
Keep your head straight and do not show that you feel anxious - Follow a W eye direction
To show respect
We need to give the impression that we know what we are saying
Self-esteem - talking in public reveals at least part of your personality
Show that you know what you are saying because this allows the audience to get attracted to what you are saying
suppress all the negative thinkings and pretend to be someone else
Preparation
Train or practice ourselves or do some brief exercicesd: in front of the mirror - in front of our closest friends or family
Prepare yourself as soon as we can: not to wait for the last minute
Get ready for any eventual question - Anticipate
Drink water - eat candies like pecto to have your voice clearer
Do some kind of warm-up: dance - jump - stretch yourself
Do some research to gather details: You need to know more about your topic
You may make some kinds of Preparation sheet where you put all the information you need to say
tips
Accent and understanding - watching movies: they are harder to understand
Not to proceed to rote learning
not write everything on the slides
Do not read your draft
Do not look directly the person in the eyes - you may be intimidated if you are shy or anxious
Don't be too long with what you are saying: Go to the point - People will end up stopping to listen to you
When you start to shake, try and shake your toes
Need improvisation, especially when you did not have time to prepare it or you have a new excellent idea
