The main idea of Erik Erikson's theory of psychosocial development
Trust vs. Mistrust
Age: Infancy
They will develop a sense of trust based on their surroundings
Example: Infants depend on their caregivers to provide their basic needs
Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt
Age: Toddlerhood
They will begin to feel the need of freedom and independence
Example: Try to put on their clothes by themselves
Initiative vs Guilt
Age: Early childhood
Begin to discover new things and completing new task
Example: Children will be able to plan activities and initiate the activities with others
Identity vs Role Confusion
Age: Adolescence
They starts to recognize their own self and acknowledge what they really want
Example: They know what they want to be such as deciding their ambition
Accomplishment/Industry vs Inferiority
Age: Middle childhood
They are able to finish task on their own correctly
Example: They can write or read on their own, without any help
Intimacy vs Isolation
Age: Young adult
They will develop the ability to give and receive love
Example: They will start to get into a long-term relationship with a special person
Generativity vs Stagnation
Age: Middle adulthood
They will develop interest in guiding the development of the next generation
Example: Parenting, coaching or teaching their children
Ego Integrity vs Despair
Age: Older adulthood
Develop a sense of acceptance of life
Example: Reflect back on their personal achievement
