- - - - a bill is proposed by am MP when people feel the need to change or establish a new law. the bill has to be approved by both houses and the governor general who represents the queen

        after a debate the MP's will vote on the bill and any changes to be considered. if it passes it will ove to the senate for consideration
        
        second reading
        
        MP explains why the bill has been introduced and other MP's are allowed to ask questions and make suggestions
      - senate
        
        in the senate the bill goes through another 3 stages of reading. it passes between the two houses of parliament until an agreement is reached or the senate rejects it completely
      - governor general
        
        if it passes both houses the queen via the governer general will aprove the law with the royal assent
- - - - federal circuit court of australia - set up in 1999 to share the load of the family and federal courts
        covers family law discrimination, migration, privacy, copyright etc.
        holds hearings in all capital cities
      - family court - hears family law cases eg. divorce, custody of children and property settlement
    - - intermediate courts - hears more serious criminal cases and complex civil cases
        judges hear and deside civil cases
        judge and jurt for criminal cases, judge desides sentence
        hears appeals from magistrates court
        
        lower courts - hears minor civil, family and criminal cases like small property claims, drink driving and domestic violence.
