Six key Concepts

Justice is treating each other in a manner that is fair and balanced. The justice system gives people the right to a fair trial whether they are guilty or innocent.

Democracy is a system of government run by people for people where citizens choose who represent them. There are two types which are direct and representative.
Participation refers to the way people contribute or take part in society. Australians participate in society by voting in elections and referendums, serving on juries, paying taxes, participating in political discussions, signing petitions or contacting representatives.

People can make a difference by raising awareness about political issues through more direct action, also known as non-violent resistance.

Voting
As informed citizens, we can participate in democracy by voting to elect the people who we feel will best represent us.
Rights and Responsibilities relates to our entitlements and duties as citizens. This is an important part of living in a democracy. Rights ensure we contribute to our society and help keep the democracy strong.

The Westminster system is a form f government that originates in the UK and used by countries like Australia, Canada and NZ. It has 2 Houses which are the lower house (whose job is mainly ceremonial) and the Senate.
