An example of this is when a toddler is in a store with their parents. The toddler may wander off in the store on their own to look, the parent will then realize the toddler has walked off and go get them. The parent may reprimand them by popping their bottom, smacking their hand, or yelling at them. When this happens, the toddler will pause and have a blank stare on their face then they will begin to cry and get upset. Mostly, the toddler is crying because they are shamed that they got in trouble, not because the reprimanding occurred.
