MAGNA CARTA
Position in time: 1215
Attributed to the birth of Parliament.
context: JOHN I faced revolt from his senior barons, so he made some concessions= MAGNA CARTA
the implications: legal innovations and rights. Created movement for independent judiciary and due process. not the formal constitution....( it was a list of wrongs the barons wanted corrected.) Grew the concept of rule of law.

Point in time: 1628
Context: CHARLES I held a contentious relationship with parliament- he went on to dissolve it twice. The parliament refused to fund the thirty year war efforts. the kning was acting in breach of magna carta
a) No taxation without Parliament’s consent;
b) No forced loans;
c) No interference with property rights;
d) The enforcement of Habeas Corpus;
e) No arbitrary arrest;
f) No imprisonment contrary to Magna Carta;
g) No exemption of royal officials from applying due process;
h) No forced billeting of troops, and;
i) No imposition of martial law in times of peace.
Petition of rights was not law but assertation by parliament as declaration of established rigthts.
THREE RESOLUTIONS
Point in time: 1629
complained of the growing catholic influence in Anglican Church
Proposal: declare anyone who collected customs duties 'enemies of the kingdom and betrayers of liberties _ during the reign of CHARLES I
1648 capture and execution of CHARLES I
*1653 Cromwell dissolves parliament.
1660 Restoration of Monarchy- Charles II
