War of the Roses

It was fought between 1455 and 1485

After the foreign wars, England was fought between the quarrels of two branches of the royal family:

House of York

House of Lancaster

Their emblem was a white rose

Their emblem was a red rose

for this it was known as "war of the roses"

the war was won by Henry Tudor, of the house of Lancaster

The union of the two families opens the way to the Tudor dynasty

The last of the York, Richard II, was killed in the battle of Bosworth Field in 1485

the Tudor dynasty marked the beginning of modern times

Henry VIII and the break with Rome

Richard I who reigned from 1483 to 1485 was the last king of the house of York

Since he had no male heir, he was concerned that if the succession was not established the Tudor government would collapse.

In 1533 Henry VIII ordered the Archbishop of Canterbury to declare his marriage null and void and married Anne Boleyn in a private ceremony.

this act led to the break with Rome

When Henry VIII died in 1547, he was succeeded for 9 years by Edward VI.

Catherine of Aragon was proclaimed queen

She was the first woman to be crowned full monarch of England

In 1554 he married Philip II of Spain to ensure that England would be faithful to the church of Rome

she was embroiled in terrible persecution, several Protestants were burned at the stake and burned, this tarnished her reputation

following the persecution many Protestants fled to cities like Geneva and Basel, where they came into contact with the ideas of Jonh Calvin, when the queen died, the Protestants returned to England and formed a Calvinist, a group known as "the Puritans"

Queen Mary died childless and was succeeded by her half-sister Elisazabeth.

Elizabeth had many suitors, but at that time the marriage corresponded to the political alliance, so Elizabeth rejected them all and never married

LA GUERRA CON LA SPAGNA

the reason for the war was eilizabeth's support for the enemies of spain and the british. England's maritime power was demonstrated in 1588, when the Spanish armada was defeated by a combination of adverse weather conditions and skilled English sailors

in 1584 Sir Walter Raleigh founded a colony and named it "Virginia" in honor of the queen. in 1600 Queen Elizabeth signed a contract for the British East India Company which was to create ties with Asia and challenge Dutch rule

The boundaries of human learning were expanding with the boundaries of the physical world. the thought of man was developing and a new culture was born

the revival of learning was based on the study and translation of the classics, which was lost during the Middle Ages

IL RINASCIMENTO ITALIANO The Italian peninsula was the birthplace of the Renaissance. humanism stimulated the study of the classics and led to a renewal of contemporary thought in all fields of art and knowledge

IL RINASCIMENTO INGLESE the English Renaissance was influenced by the Italian one but it differed in many ways, Henry VI with the breakup of Rome slowed down the Italian influence and delayed the Renaissance to the 16th century, secondly in England the Renaissance in art and in the architecture like in Italy
