Before the recruitment process starts, the employer must decide exactly what the organisation needs. The employer will have yo carry out a needs analysis in order to be clear about the following.

Drawn up after the job description has been prepared. Its purpose is to "identify what an ideal applicant for the post should have in terms of personal qualities, knowledge, qualifications, skills and previous work experience".

Usually the characteristics, achievements, qualifications, skills and previous work experience are listed, under two subheadings, essential or desirable.
At this stage, all applicants who meet the criteria will be invited for an interview and the successful applicants will be offered a job. A contract will be drawn up and given to each successful applicant within eight weeks of starting work.
Businesses need to recruit new employees for several reasons, they may need to:

Bring in people who have skills they need, but don't have.
Replace employees who have left because of: retirement, resignation, promotion or dismissal.
The main purpose is to "define the main duties and responsibilities of the post". It also acts as a reference document in the event of later disputes. It is essential as both employee and employer know what the employee is expected to do.
A copy of the job desvription is sent to each applicant for the job so that he/she is clear what is required in the job.

Purpose: "set out the rights and duties of both the employee and the employer". It is an agreement between the two parties and can be enforced by the law, providing protection and security to both the employer and employee.
It begins when the empkoyer makes an offer of work with payment of money and the employee accepts the offer at that rate and agrees to work. By law, a full-time employee must be given a contract of employmeng within eight weeks of starting work.

Good employers realise that the most important resource in any business is the people who work there. It is possible for a business to have very modern tech and state-of-art premises, but unless it employs the best possible work force, it will never achieve the best results
