- - - - Rainforests can be preserved in conservation areas, such as national parks or nature reserves. These areas can be used for education, scientific research and tourism. Costa Rica has done this and 30% of its rainforest is a national park, protected by law.
    - - Ecotourism aims to introduce people to the natural world, to benefit local communities and protect the environment for the future. Through income generated by ecotourism, local people and governments benefit from retaining and protecting their rainforest trees. This is a more sustainable option than cutting them down for short term profit.

    - - A more sustainable approach to logging involves selective logging. This is where instead of cutting all trees down loggers select the oldest tree to cut, leaving the young ones to grow. They decide which way it will fall to avoid it toppling younger trees. In some places they even use animals like ox to drag the tree out to the road to avoid big machines like bulldozers and diggers ruining the rainforest
