The rainforest
Causes of deforestation
-
Comercial farming
It is cattle ranching for beef and soy - soy is used to feed cattle in HICs. Brazil made £5.5 billion from trading cattle and is the largest exporter of beef in the world.
Logging
NOT FOR PAPER! For construction especially as rainforest trees are hardwood, perfect for building and furniture. The trees mainly used are mahogany and teet.
Road building
Trans Amazon highway, to open the rainforest fro development (getting big trucks in/out) Brazil needed a huge main road that runs the length of the Amazon 4000km (or Lands End to John O Groats 3 times)
Mining
It is open cast open blast mining. Minerals under the rainforest are valuable like iron, bauxite (aluminium) In Peru one mine alone employs 3000 people. These mining companies and employees pay taxes which are used to provide public services like hospitals and schools.
Energy development
Or HEP Hydro-electric power. 48 dams on the Amazon river already and further 150 planned to provide cheap and Carbon dioxide free electricity to businesses and people. It's the businesses that also need the cheap electricity
Settlement
For workers and their families from miners to loggers to farmers. New villages and towns are being created as land is deforested and land is being given to people to stop them from moving to the crowded cities like Rio.

Features and adaptations
In the rainforest there are over 2000 ant species in the rainforest. There are also over 2000 tree species in the amazon
There is thin poor quality soils in the rainforest, Most of the soil is infertile due to the heavy rainfall washing away the nutrients from the soil
-
The rainforest has layers, these layers are: the forest floor, the shrub layer, the under canopy, the main canopy and the emergents

Impacts of deforestation
-
-
It forces out indigenous tribes with thousands of years of knowledge of the rainforest and medicine, we found periwinkle and its benefits through the indigenous people.

Biomes and Ecosystems
-
-
Some of the biomes include: Taiga, Polar and Desert
-
-
-
The nutrient cycle
-
The leaf litter falls to the ground and the decomposers then break down the leaf litter which provides nutrients for the soil which allows the plants to grow

Climate
Rainforests have very high average temperatures with an average daily temperature of 28 degrees C, the temperature never drops below 20 degrees C, It rarely exceeds 35 degrees C
