Deforestation
Because trees hold a lot of water and prevent sediment run offs so then there's no where left for the ocean water to go so it floods -for example: Kashmir in India
Coastal Flooding
Storm Surges
A storm surge is a rise in sea level that occurs during tropical storms (cyclone/typhoons/hurricanes). The combination of low air pressure and strong winds can push seawater into shore, leading to flooding. This makes storm surges very dangerous for coastal regions.
A
Tsunami
is a series of ocean waves that sends surges of water, sometimes reaching heights of over 100 feet (30.5 meters), onto land. These walls of water can cause widespread destruction when they crash ashore.

causes long-term
economic consequences
Wealth
: unemployed people/people with benefits could not afford to protect themselves
Quality of emergency services & coastal defenses
: LICs may can't protect themselves at all whilst HICs may struggle to build & maintain coastal defenses due to budgets and other priorities
Quantity of man-made structures to withstand the nature forces
: HICs mainly build large structures to protect themselves from natural disasters & weather extremes. LICs' structures are mainly vulnerable & poorly constructed
social consequences
Education
: less educated people are less likely to know what to do and follow instructions
Health
: Older people, pregnant people, children or disabled people can't evacuate without any support
Population Density
: the more people in a certain area, the harder to evacuate
Timing
: If the hazard/disaster happens during early hours, people will be unable to flee as they may be asleep. If it happens during the peak hour, people may be stranded easily
CLIMATE CHANGE
Warming climate will cause an increase in sea level and ice over land therefore will melt
