Thematic Structure:
We don´t find it in expressions like ´good morning, hi!, nominals groups such as we might find in book´s titles.
-
Information Structure
All clauses have information structure and we make use of this in spoken as well as written language
The interaction of information structure and thematic structure: Having both of these in the language makes it possible for a writer or speaker to choose to put New inforrmation in Theme position and Given information in Rheme position.
Theme
-
There are MULTIPLE THEMES: Textual theme: It is used when speakers use expressions like ´WELL, ANYWAY.
Interpersonal theme: They are used before the topical theme
There are two other types of interpersonal Theme. The first is when the speaker or writer addresses someone or some people directly by using a name or familiar address term(JOHN,MOTHER) or a term of affection or insult (MY DEAR, DARLING,IDIOT) Another type of interpersonal Theme functions simultaneously as topical Theme.
