Formative
Definition: An assessment used to help students recognize their strengths and weaknesses and monitor them. It is also used to help teachers identify where most students have trouble and to adjust their lessons accordingly.
Exit ticket: Students will answer 5 questions on how to find a missing angle formed by two parallel lines cut by a transversal
Notecard: Students will write a short answer explaining the steps involved to solve a quadratic equation.
Summative
Definition: An assessment that focuses more on evaluating what students have learned over a unit. Because this generally covers an entire unit, it is usually weighted heavier grade wise.
Project: Create a parody of a popular song describing how to solve quadratic equations using factoring and the quadratic formula.

Diagnostic
Definition: An assessment used to analyze individual student's strengths and weaknesses as well as their knowledge on the topic in question. Generally given at the start of a unit or right before it.
Pre-test: A multiple choice/short answer test over the next unit. This will not be graded for correctness but participation.
Survey: Create a google form on the next unit and ask students what they know about specific sections of the unit.
Benchmark
Definition: An assessment that is used to see if students are on track for their grade level compared to other students. This assessment is generally a district, state or national level assessment.
STARR test: a state wide test assessing students learning compared to students in their grade level.
