Political relations between Cataluña and Felipe II
The political relations between Cataluña and Felipe IV were of enmity and crisis. This crisis turned into an armed conflict in the spring of 1640
Internal scope
The reforms measures applied by the count-duke of Olivares didn´t like Cataluña
The idea of lose of autonomy of each of the kingdoms in favor of a unification and homogenization of the monarchy of Felipe IV
Increase and creation of new taxes that would allow maintain the Arms Union
External scope
The catalans and castillians broke out in the peasant and popular uprising in the spring of 1640
The revolt started in Girona, were the biggest clashes had take place
Olivares wanted to resolve the conflict by force and sent 30000 mens
The catalans ruling classes decide to ask for help from the french who occuped catalan territory. It was resolved in 1652 and Cataluña was once again part of the Hispanic Monarchy
France´s declaration of war made Cataluña the first military front.
Castilian troops were sent to the area and more contributions were requested for maintenance

Between 1628 and 1630 there were violent revols. Its cause was the administrative reforms of Olivares groves and the
different fiscal measures
Separatism began to be encouraged and legitimized
In 1637 riots occur in southern Portugal
In 1640 the definitive rebelion was formalized
The nobility began to pay taxes
The rebels seized all of Portugal and proclaimet the duke of Braganza king, as Juan IV
