There are 5 levels on the social hierarchy: Sultan and wife, Men of the pen, Men of the sword, Men of negotiation, and Men of husbandry (farmers)
Not alot of Men of the Pen, because most people were sent to the army instead

Christian boys were taken from their home in order to become member of the society, they became soldiers and a few become men of the pen

Tokugawa Empire
Social hierarchy= Emperor, Shogun, Daimyo, Samurai, and Peasants

Daimyo heirarchy: Shinpan, Fudai, and Tozama
Daimyo ruled over small domains aka Han, there were about 250 of them
Each domain had their own economy, currency, and military
Samurai lived by bushido (way of life), they became cultural leaders

They had a very strict rule over their subjects and even stricter rules regarding foreign people and idea.

When rulers of empires get married, it can lead to the empires merging which is called composite monarchy
