PHOTOSYNTHESIS - Coggle Diagram
PHOTOSYNTHESIS
The process wherein autotrophs convert solar energy into glucose.
Autotrophs
Algae
Plants
Kelp
Phytoplankton
Organisms that create their own food.
Cyanobacteria
Endergonic or requires energy.
Chloroplast
Stages
Light Independent Reactions
Step 1
5C bonds with CO2 from the air bonds to make a short lived 6C molecule
Step 2
ATP and NADPH are used
6C molecule broken into 3C molecules
Step 3
3C molecules will bond to form glucose
Other 3C molecules will recombine to form 5C molecule
Process restarts
Light Dependent Reactions
Step 1
Chlorophyll in PSII absorbs sunlight
Electrons become excited
Thylakoid membrane becomes negatively charged
Starts an "electron transport chain"
Step 2
H+ pulled into thylakoids
Water molecules are broken
Water's electrons replenish the photosystem
Oxygen waste released
Step 3
Chlorophyll in PSI absorbs sunlight and electrons become excited
Step 4
Electrons help bond NADP+ and H+ to create NADPH
Step 5
H+ diffuses into the stroma
H+ helps bond ADP+P to create ATP
