What is oppression?

Why should we care about men's oppression, when women are clearly oppressed by men? (This is key to understanding oppression, maybe we should understand it as oppressive society, rather than oppression by groups)
-
feminism is in part aimed at ending oppression (for women especially). If gender roles can be shown to be oppressive to men, then maybe they can be discarded, which may have good effects for women.
should we take a tight or wide view of oppression? The former may maintain it's integrity and strength, whereas opening the concept up will account for more cases? There's clearly a case for the tight version, but is there one for the wide (aka are men oppressed?)
if there is a case for the wide view, then how should we understand it? Is dehumanisation necessary? Is a beneftting corollary group necessary?

make this leap clearer: how do you go from: 'men are damaged by the gender order' to 'this leads men to treat women badly and miss knowledge' to 'men are oppressed'? (maybe look back at the starting definitions?)
maybe 'put the cart before the horse' here. There seems to be a case for men's oppression here. Are there reasons to reject it as oppression? Or should we call it oppression? Or something in between? Or oppression, but qualified by something else?
