Formative
Definition: a planned process utilized by students and teachers during learning and teaching to use evidence of student learning to improve the understanding of intended learning outcomes and encourage students to become self-sufficient learners.
Daily Journal Entries: Compose daily journal entries daily giving a brief summary of key points taught during the lesson
Exit Card: Students are to complete an index card containing what they believe to be the most important aspects of the lesson taught that day as a "pass" to leave class for the day
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: Used to determine and assess where students stand in their learning progression and whether or not they are "on track" with the learning criteria for future progression
Standardized Testing: Administered to students through the state to assess their standings and progression on a grade level basis

Summative
Definition: used to asses student progression at the end of a learning unit and usually have high grade value towards the class
Final Exam: Traditionally cumulative information based tests assessing students on most or all of the information learned in the course
Essay: Some courses write a heavy grade weighted essay throughout the duration of the course which is turned in at the end of the course or year
Diagnostic
Definition: used to determine a students strengths and weaknesses going into the course as a resource for teachers to help meet the needs of students during instruction

Observational Notes: Teacher keeps observational notes of how well students react and perform after certain teaching styles and instruction is used in the classroom
Performance
Definition: an assessment administered to students that require them to perform a task rather than answer questions via tests or exams
