Diagnostic
Definition: Diagnostic assessments are used to be forms of pre-assessments in order to determine a student's strengths and weaknesses; prior misconceptions, as well. The information from here can help teachers plan their instructions to meet the needs of students.
KWL Chart: What the students know before starting, what they want to know, and what they learn during.
Running Records: Keeping record while your student reads to determine what reading level they are on
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: Interim/benchmark assessments are used to see where students are in their learning and determine if they are on track with their learning to do well on future assessments

Summative
Definition: Summative assessments are used to evaluate student learning at the end of a unit or class. These are high stakes, therefore they have a high grade point value.
Exams: including multiple choice, short answer, etc

Definition: Formative assessment is the process of gathering evidence of student learning, providing feedback, adjusting instruction strategies in order to enhance achievement, and changes learners behaviors.
