Think and Grow Rich
-Napoleon Hill
Introduction
Barnes, the man who thought his way into Edison's company (and became his business partner).
R.U. Darby - the man who stopped three feet shy of a gold vein
A 50 Cent Lesson in Perseverance - the little black girl and the 50 cent piece - she could have walked away at the first "no", but instead chose to persist and had a definite, clear purpose for doing so.
When riches begin to come, they will come so fast and so strong that we will wonder where they have been the whole time
We have the power to succeed inside of us, we just need to know how to manage and direct our thoughts towards success, purpose, and our ONE DEFINITE PURPOSE
Desire - The First Step towards Riches
Barnes was successful because he persisted in his desire, he let it burn into him, and he put all of his faith in the attainment of that goal. One goal. One purpose. 100% Effort.
DESIRE to the point of OBSESSION is the key. FOCUS. Become conscious of your desire to the point that you KNOW you will achieve it.
The Six Steps
Fix a definite amount of money (a concrete, specific definition of success - be specific, begin with the end in mind, and know exactly what you want)
Determine exactly and specifically what you intend to give in return
Establish a definite and specific date by which you will succeed
Create a definite plan and begin IMMEDIATELY, whether you are ready or not
Write out a clear, concise statement of the amount of money (the goal), name the limit for its acquisition, state what you intend to give in return, and clearly describe the plan through which you intend to accumulate your desire
6.Read this concise statement out loud 2x/day - early in the morning and right before bed. SEE and FEEL yourself already in possession of it, BELIEVE that it is ALREADY yours. See yourself as successful in the present tense.

The difference is between WISHING for a thing and BEING READY TO RECEIVE IT
I bargained with Life for a penny
and Life would pay no more
However I begged at evening,
when I counted my scanty score
For Life is just an employer
He gives you what you ask
But once you have set the wages
Why YOU must bear the task
I worked for a menial's hire
Only to learn, dismayed
That any wage I had asked from Life
Life would have willingly paid
Faith - The Second Step towards Riches
Faith can be bolstered and created through affirmations
Negative emotions can also charge thoughts and create manifestations
Faith is the "eternal elixer" which gives life, power, and action to the impulse of thought
"We are what we are because of the vibrations of thought which we pick up and register through the stimuli of our daily environment"
The Self-Confidence Formula
I know that I have the ability to achieve the object of my Definite Purpose in life. Therefore, I DEMIND of myself persistent, continuous action toward its attainment and I here and now promise to render such action
I realize the dominating thoughts of my mind will eventually reproduce themselves in outward, physical action and gradually transform themselves into physical reality. Therefore I will concentrate my thoughts for thirty minutes daily upon the task of thinking of the person I intend to become, thereby creating in my mind a clear mental picture of that person.
I know, through the principle of auto-suggestion, that any desire I persistently hold in my mind will eventually seek expression through some practical means of attaining the object back of it. Therefore, I will devote ten minutes daily to demanding of myself the development of SELF-CONFIDENCE
I have clearly written down a description of my DEFINITE CHIEF AIM in life, and I will never stop trying until I shall have developed sufficient self-confidence for its attainment
I fully realize that no wealth of position can long endure unless built upon truth and justice, therefore I will engage in no transaction which does not benefit all whom it affects. I will succeed by attracting to myself the forces I wish to use and the cooperation of other people. I will induce others to serve me because of my willingness to serve others. I will eliminate hatred, envy, jealousy, selfishness, and cynicism by developing love for all humanity, because I know that a negative attitude towards others can never bring me success. I will cause others to believe in me because I will believe in them and in myself.
I will sign my name to this formula, commit it to memory, and repeat it aloud once a day with full FAITH that it will gradually influence my thoughts and actions so that I will become a self-reliant and successful person
The subconscious cannot distinguish between positive and negative, or between helpful and harmful, thoughts. Fear, doubt, and disbelief will create patterns of failure.
Auto-Suggestion - The Third Step towards Riches
Reading the words isn't enough - it needs to be charged with EMOTION
Visualize clearly
If you're hit with "inspiration", or a plan to attain your desire seeming from nowhere - TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION
A Summary of Instructions
Go to a quiet place and read your affirmation or written Six Steps
Repeat morning and night until you can clearly visualize the achievement of your desire
Place a written copy of the statement where it can be seen day and night - read it before bed and upon rising
Use FAITH. That of a child.
Specialized Knowledge - The Fourth Step towards Riches
Ford and his "trial by fire" - I have a series of push-buttons...This knowledge was obtained through CONNECTIONS to a Master Mind, not necessarily in his own mind.
First, decide the sort of specialized knowledge needed - use your Major Purpose to help. Use this knowledge, take ACTION and APPLY IT. Knowledge without application is useless trivia.
Actively educate yourself - with at-home courses too!
Lack of Ambition
The person who stops studying merely because he has finished school is forever hopelessly doomed to mediocrity, no matter what may be his calling. The way of success is the way of continuous pursuit of knowledge
Starting from the bottom sounds good, but many who begin here are never able to lift their head high enough for OPPORTUNITY to spot them. The outlook is also bleak, and the work rather drudgerous and repetitive, that we stuck in a rut.
Associating with the successful also breeds success
Imagination - The Fifth Step towards Riches
It has been said that man can create anything he can IMAGINE
Two Forms of Imagination
Synthetic - old ideas turned into new combinations
Creative - direct communication with Infinite Intelligence (the Universal Mind or Consciousness à la Sydney Banks)
Creativity works automatically, but only when the mind is in a highly vibrational state - like during the emotions generated from strong desire
This faculty is improved through use (like a muscle)
Nature, the Universe, began as Thought Energy. Using these techniques taps us into this energy.
How to Make Use of Imagination

What Would I Do if I Had One Million Dollars?
Mr. Gunsaulus the preacher fundraising $1m against all odds.
Success requires no explanations
Failure permits no alibis
Organized Planning - The Sixth Step towards Riches
The Mastermind
ally yourself with the people you need to formulate and carry out a plan
Decide what you're offering them in return
arrange to meet at least 2x/week, more if possible, until successful (and beyond)
Keep in mind these facts:
You are engaged in an undertaking of massive importance to you. Have faultless plans.
You must have the harmonious cooperation of other minds, and submit and re-work plans persistently until one works.
Leadership
Two kinds: leaders and followers.
Being a follower is OK, but do not expect the leaders' pay
Many leaders began as followers, but through INTELLIGENT FOLLOWING they learned the necessary skills to become leaders

Those who talk too much do little else
Don't speak too loudly of your plans, or someone else will take action on them
Power
The story of the Continental Congress of Sept. 5, 1774 - 56 men made the decision, together in a Master Mind, to defy England and create their own state. A decision that could very well have meant their deaths.
