Formative
Definition: Process of gathering evidence of student performance, in which students are provided feedback, adjustments can be made, and students an change behaviors.

Benchmark
Definition: Occur at predetermined points of time, are necessary, allow students to improve their understandings, as well as allow the teacher to adjust instruction.

Performance
Definition: This is a type of assessment in which students are challenged to complete a task-based on their knowledge.

Summative
Definition: Caps off a large chunk of learning and teaches assessment taking skills. These are necessary and show up on reports, such as report cards.

Definition: These will inform teachers of student achievement gaps. They are given at the start of a unit, in order to plan the unit.
Example: A quiz or test that is given at the start of the class to assess what students already know
Example: Diagnostic assessments can be found in the course textbook, as texts will usually have three course texts.
