Formative
Definition: A way to monitor students and receive feedback that can help adjust the lesson. This assessment help identify where the students' strengths and weaknesses are so that they are addressed immediately.

Interim/Benchmark
Definition: An assessment that is given at different intervals throughout the year. This assessment is used to evaluate students' learning progress to help prepare them for future summative assessments.
Chapter Test: Students can be given a chapter test to test their knowledge on the latest chapter they have read. This will lead up to a summative assessment once the book is finished.
STAAR: Students are given the Texas standardized test to identify their knowledge in a particular grade level.
Summative
Definition: A way to evaluate student learning at the conclusion of a lesson. This assessment help identify academic achievement and the learning progress of each student.

Final Project: Students can put a project together that sums up their understanding of a unit topic.
Performance
Definition: A way to assess students on the skill or task rather than a test that contains multiple choice answers. This assessment helps identify students' ability to write to explain their answers.
Open-Ended Questions: Students can use their knowledge to answer a Math problem and write to explain how they got their answer.
One Pager: Students can create a One Pager that illustrates/explains their knowledge on specific texts that they have read.
Diagnostic
Definition: A way to assess your students before you dive into the instruction. This assessment is used to see what your students already know about the topic to help guide your instruction plan.
Survey: Students can complete a survey that asks them what they learned in previous grade and what they might know in their current grade.
Quick-Write: Students can use a quick-write to list everything they know about the topic for the future.
