Diagnostic
A pre-assessment allowing teachers to determine student's strengths, weaknesses, knowledge, and skills before instruction
Examples: Phonics inventory, running records, analysis of student work
Performance
A type of assessment that asks students to perform a task. It is open-ended and should demonstrate authentic learning
Examples: individual or group projects, portfolios, journals, plays, recitals, etc.
Interim/Benchmark
Periodic testing throughout the school year. Including testing students at the end of a grading period (i.e. every six weeks)
Examples: Testing students every six weeks, projects, written test
Summative
