Collaborative Care
Nutritionist: Evaluate whether the p/t is malnourished. If malnourished, give diet high in calories, vitamins, and protein. Avoid fat. Possibly parenteral nutrition.
Connecting them with a support group. This disease is life changing and it could be helpful to share experiences with others going through the same thing.

Risk Factors
Genetic predisposition: If the parents have Crohn's disease, then children have a 30-100 times greater incidence.
Environmental Triggers: Smoking tobacco increases the risk of developing Crohn's disease by 2x. It is thought that smoking causes imbalance in intestinal flora.

Pathophysiology (Causes)
Exaggerated immune response that is possibly related to pathogens, but could be a failed immune system job.

Labs/Diagnostics
Hx and examination. Sigmoidoscopy to see the affected areas as well as getting a biopsy. May get a stool specimen to see if there are any pathogens. Radiography to find any fistulas and CT scans to see if there are any abscesses.
