Formative
Definition: Formative assessment is to monitor student learning to provide ongoing feedback that can be used by instructors to improve their teaching and by students to improve their learning. It Is low stake, grades have little to no value. These can also be formal or informal.

Summary- Students will complete a 1-2 sentence summary on a sticky note over a topic we just went over and place it on the parking lot as an exit ticket.
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: Interim/Benchmarks are used to see where students are in their learning and determine if they are on track with their learning to do well in future assessments
STAAR- Texas state standardized test given to assess what the students have learned or achieved in their grade level.
Istation Testing- given to students to see where they are in their reading level and keep track of their progress throughout the year.
Summative
Definition: Summative assessment is to evaluate student learning at the end of an instructional unit by comparing it against some standard or benchmark. These assessments have high stake point value.

Definition: Diagnostic assessment is a form of pre-assessment that allows a teacher to determine students' individual strengths, weaknesses, knowledge, and skills prior to instruction. It is primarily used to diagnose student difficulties and to guide lesson and curriculum planning

Pretest- Given to determine what a student knows about a topic before teaching so the teacher can determine how to give her lesson to meet student needs.
Performance
Definition: Performance assessments measures how well students apply their knowledge, skills, and abilities to authentic problems through tasks not tests.
Experiment- Students are given an experiment to show the knowledge they have gained about a science topic.
