Pathophysiology/Causes
Chronic inflammation and abscess formation in any area of GI tract
Development of ulcers and lesions throughout mucosal tissue, interspersed with normal smooth muscle tissue. "Cobblestone" appearance.
Damage to submucosal layer causes thickening of bowel wall, hypertrophy, fibrosis, and stricture formation.
Adjacent tissue becomes inflamed, causing the cycle to repeat.
