Formative Assessments
Definition: Formative assessments are used as a way to gather evidence of students leaning and provide feedback for the teacher. They are also used as a tool to adjust instruction strategies to help the students become more successful. These test are low stakes and should hold little to no grade value.
Concept map: Have students draw a concept map of the topic being discussed and what they understand.
Two roses and a thorn: Have student list two things they liked about a chapter or a lesson and one thing they did not like or still have a question about.

Summative Assessments
Definition: Used to evaluate students learning or skill acquisition at the end of a unit, instructional period, course, ect. Can be administered as a final exam, unit project, or essay.

Book Report: Students create a book report to share their ideas and understanding from a topic related to the topic of discussion.
Performance Assessments
Definition: Rather than selecting an answer from a paper exam, a performance assessment is testing a student's skill to perform a task to present their skill.
Performing a rap: Students are graded based off how well their incorporated information from the topic into their rap.
PAs in our placements: Students are graded based off how well they teach a lesson to their students.
Diagnostic Assessments
Definition: A kind of pre-assessment teachers can use to be able to determine their students strengths and weaknesses of their knowledge before teaching a lesson to ensure learning happens and their students are successful.
Running Record: Kept to record progress of reading and used to determine if the student is ready for a more challenging reading level.
Word List Reading: Students preform their knowledge of site words to determine if they are ready for new, more challenging ones or still need more practice with the words they already have.
